Studies show that many people prefer on-the-ear headphones, but with conventional technology, smaller earcups compromise performance. So Bose® launched a research project to explore something we were not sure was even possible – overcoming the performance limitations of smaller size and on-the-ear design.

In order to reduce the size of the Quietcomfort® 3 Acoustic Noise Cancelling® headphones – without compromising performance – Bose engineers employed a new proprietary acoustic design to ensure audio quality at all frequencies, a new electronic design to deliver superior noise reduction, and a new mechanical design to ensure a comfortable fit for long term listening. With these advances, the Quietcomfort® 3 Acoustic Noise Cancelling headphones overcome the performance trade offs found in conventional on-ear headphones, and offer a listening experience previously only available in larger, on-the-ear designs.

To improve convenience, the QuietComfort® 3 Acoustic Noise Cancelling headphones fold flat in a smaller, slimmer carrying case and come with a rechargeable battery. They are ideal for travel, home or office and can be used with portable audio devices, including select stereo-enabled mobile phones.
